  1. The Mid-West gets hit by bad weather a lot because it is the center of where four different weather systems often hit.  Cold, moist air off the Pacific Ocean from the west; cold, dry air from Canada from the north; warm, moist air from the south, and semi-cold moist air from the Atlantic from the east.  Tornadoes, for example, are made when two different fronts--warm and cold--collide.  This is why the Mid-West is often referred to as 'Tornado Alley'.

  2. Its because of mid-latitude cyclones and moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. MLC's contain associated weather fronts, which are responsible for producing bad weather. Considering different air masses, moisture abundance, and cyclogenesis, its very understandable as to why mid-latitude cyclones do so much.

  3. this is because the warm moist air from the golf of mexico collides with the cold dry air from the north...also...the air must move over the rocky mountains, which helps create cyclogenesis. a dryline is also located over the midwest which also helps create severe weather. all of these factors make the atmosphere very unstable. the midwest really has all of the right ingredients for severe weather.
