  1. Okay Jack- if you think it sucks- where are you going to go?  Why don't you leave?

Bacause you know that this is still the greatest country in the world even in it's "suck" state!

If we get back to our moral values which our country was founded on then we will be great again!  There is no safety in chaos- the chaos that moral decay has imposed.

What are you gonna do instead of complaining?  Why don't you get off the couch and get involved!  Start like Obama- in your own community!

And some of the above ideas are good and some are bad, remember history and avoid the same mistakes.  We do need to drill and get wind going- nuclear power is awesome and safe.  There are so many options and why not do them together?

Shut up- stop whining and get a life!

  2. Umm, Paeslie, some people, probably including the first poster, think its better to try to change a flawed system from within rather than run away and leave it to collapse.

The second poster said he is going to leave as soon as he can afford to.

What is the point of the first part of your post?

Every country thinks it is the greatest country in the world, but people need to be realistic and see the flaws and work to change them. Like every other country in the world, the US has flaws and inequalities. Paeslie's bombastic and arrogant argument assumes that the American way of life is the only one of virtue, when clearly that is not the case. There is poverty, high rates of violent crime, inequality and racism in the US, just as there is in Russia, the EU and Africa. There is no Utopia, and no country can claim to be Utopia.

  3. It's a symptom of the failure of a so-called democracy. In the US, Americans overwhelmingly support single-payer universal health and they overwhelminly support the quick withdrawal from the Middle East.

The political thought among even the most intelligent people is defined and constrained by mass media. The mass media encourages vigorous debate on topics that are "safe." The media also marginalizes and dismisses topics outside the boundaries of what is considered safe. The media is profit oriented and the advertisers are all very conservative and powerful entities. The so called "war" in the Middle East is very profitable to large corporations and the wealthy.

If the US had a functional democracy, our politicians would be discussing the following topics:

--Adopt single payer national health insurance

--Cut the huge, bloated, wasteful military budget

--No to nuclear power, solar energy first

--Aggressive crackdown on corporate crime and corporate welfare

    --Open up the Presidential debates

    --Adopt a carbon pollution tax

--Reverse U.S. policy in the Middle East

    --Impeach Bush/Cheney

    --Repeal the Taft-Hartley anti-union law

--Adopt a Wall Street securities speculation tax

--Put an end to ballot access obstructionism

    --Work to end corporate personhood

--Defend, Restore and Strengthen the Civil Justice System

    --Adopt the National Initiative

  4. the guy who wrote above has many good ideas. The government doesn't like any dissent though, which I'm learning very fast. I'm certain this site is monitored closely. I live in the USA, and love my country but am very disillusioned with the phoniness of our politicians who are all wealthy people out of touch with the common people. I'm voting Independent in the election, a wasted vote I suppose but I live in a liberal state that's going to Obama so my vote doesn't count anyway.  (I live in very liberal Massachusetts). If I ever have the money I hope to move to Spain or another Mediterranean country or Australia...  right now my income is so low and I'm writing hoping to get published.  Now I see why so many celebrities have left the USA - I just realized this week... everyone's thought and views do matter - that is what made our country great - the USA - and Britain once too. I feel for me ( a victim of pickpocketing in Honolulu while living there),  a mugging once in Los Angeles while living there  and near gang shooting where I broke my arm diving to the ground while teens shot at teens and then a victim of burglary while I slept in my apartment in a town of 30,000 in Mass by drug addicts I was told ---I think are plenty of reasons for me to consider leaving...

  5. Just because you say so doesn't make it necessarily true.It is all in the individual's perception. And in any event, your thoughts and views just don't matter.
