This is what I do not get about America. We always have to get freaking involved in everything! Is it because Georgia has an oil pipeline?

Seriously, someone please explain to me why the US has to get involved in other countries business.

  1. Well, we'd prefer to keep our allies, buddy. We have duties as an ally of a country, one of them being providing support to the nation in trouble. Also, we have soldiers IN Georgia. Think about that... say a bunch of American soldiers get killed by Russian soldiers. That IS an act of war against the U.S., and if that happens, we would have full UN support to go in there and kick some Russian ***, and believe me, we would. The only problem is that a psychotic sociopath named Vladimir Putin is in control of Russia's nuclear arsenal.

Also, to your response to dictators. There is a difference between Saddam Hussein and those other nut-jobs. See, a dictator is only a threat to his people, but once he gets Nuclear Weapons, which is what was heavily suspected, because of his refusals to UN inspectors to show proof of any, its safe to assume we need to go in and make sure he doesn't have any nuclear weapons. And yes, we are pretty sure he intended on using them, since he hates the U.S. What's interesting also, is that Saddam did have a nuclear program in operation. So much for no nukes. Freeing the Iraqi people and getting oil was a bonus to this whole mess. The problem isn't that we invaded. Its that we did it really sloppy. Never underestimate your enemy.

  2. We don't get involved in everything. Think about all the conflicts and wars in Africa. Think about all the genocide and starvation. Think about China's human rights oppression. We aren't involved in all of these directly. Georgia is our ally so we are obligated to stick up for it. When a country attakcs our ally, it becomes our business wouldn't you agree?

  3. Because the US always does. Look at our history of sticking our nose where it doesn't belong. The Korean War, The Vietnam War, The First Gulf War (we never ASKED  Kuwait), The Iraq War (Hussein may have been evil , but he didn't ask us to come) and The Afghanistan War.

But we won't take on Russia. We are to chicken. The US only invades small countries that cant defend themselves.(Like Kuwait,Iraq, Vietnam etc.) Russia is very powerful, so if we attack them, we would have to try! And we won't invade Kuwait because its Democratic and therefore free of sin and perfect (yeah right)!

But I think that all the US will do about this is talk. And talk. And talk.

  4. -Russia and Georgia start a war

-Russia blows up half the planet

-WTF AMERICA, WHY DID YOU HALP??

  5. Because Russia's invasion of Georgia challenges the US's global security structure. Georgia was attempting to join NATO. By invading, Russia has demonstrated that NATO is a paper tiger and the former Soviet Republics should think long and hard before trying to enter the Western fold. You can bet NATO-prospect Ukraine is considering its options very carefully right now. There is more than oil at stake here - Russia has challenged the legitimacy and credibility of the US's entire security regime.

  6. The USA is the one that pushed Georgia into confrontation with Russia and now that Russia showed them they won't take it, it gives them excuse to invade over there as well. It is a game. Your question holds the answer.

  7. We could have stopped Hitler in 1939. It would have saved about 6 million Jews and 350,000 U.S. soldiers. Do we have to wait for another Pearl Harbor?

  8. We have to help Georgia because they are our allies. If someone was bullying your friend, would you go and help your friend or would you stand back?

  9. Did you ever hear of NATO? If not read about it.

  10. As long as the powers that be can keep us distracted with things such as this. Then we will be less apt to focus in on their less than stellar performance on running the country. Fortunately or unfortunately for us the country is in such a shambles that we have finally taken heed of their ineptness. Now if we can stay focused for more than the next 15 minutes. We may be able to work our way out of this.

    Then again who am I?

  11. The people elected to run the US for the last 8 years believe that they are keeping you safe by trying to run the world their way and they put their money on an incompetent person called Saakashvili in Georgia who started a major confrontation with Russia by shelling into rubble a town with a lot of Russian citizens.  This, without telling anyone or getting an OK from his military sponsors ( US) so the French President learns about the response of the Russians from Putin, head of Russian, while they are both sitting on some benches watching the Olympics.

Power politics run by people who think that #1 this is the Vietnam era #2 that they can take one model of dismembering a country i.e. create a Kurdistan in No Iraq that has lots of oil and defies the central Iraqi government and apply it willy nilly to another. #3 that might makes right.#4 that the American people are going to be manipulated into

putting them in office once again.

  12. The US did not want to interfere in the little Hitler thing a few years back either in a very similar situation. And gee....i believe there was a little oopsie on the US's part (just ask the jews)

  13. The US gets involved in conflicts in other parts of the world because it learned some lessons from WWII.  Germany invaded Poland at the beginning of WWII and the US said it wasn't any of our business.  No on stopped Hitler.  He then decided to invade France.  It wasn't until he got to Great Britain that the US decided maybe it was there business.  It costs tens of thousands of lives that shouldn't have been lost because the US watched until it was forced to enter.  The inactivity also made Japan bolder so they attacked Pearl Harbor.  The result of WWII was a stronger Soviet Union and the Cold War.  We are still paying for the mistakes of waiting in the 1930s.

  14. Haven't they just sent aid such as food, first aid kits and water?
