There is a huge difference between leading and acquiring control, directly or indirectly! US has one of the worst records in history, US has been responsible for arming and supporting many dictators and tyrants. Overthrew many democratically elected governments. Why??? - CONTROL

Who would you prefer?  Who is more capable?  Who has more experience, resources, science, medicine, general know-how---who?

Same reason everybody else does.  You just don't notice them because we're so much better at it.

You'll notice all the Euros going on and on about Iraq, and about Darfur... but you don't see any of them actually DOING anything about Darfur, without the US leading the way.

It's the old catch-22.  They won't do anything without being led, but they hate whoever leads them for making them have to WORK so HARD!  It's not FAIR!   Waaaaaaaaah!

Herkk is right... the US has one of the worst records in history, except for, you know, virtually EVERYBODY else. (There are a few countries with better records, mostly countries that never actually do much of anything, for good or ill.)

He's also right that the US supported some nasty people... usually, against the even nastier people that the Soviets were supporting.

Perspective.  It does a brain good.

Not 'lead' - but control.  This country is owned by only a few multi-national conglomerates..  and it is they, out of insatiable greed..  that are attempting to create a 'New World'..  "economy" - which of course means they will basically..  own.

cuz US wants to be IDOL of the whole wide world... just like Bush... he wants to be idolized, that's why he invade iraq and afgan without thinking it through...

also... remember how we christianize Africa?  basically it's just an excuse to take their lands and enslave them...
