Have they not figured out yet that there are other countries in the world? Lets look at the results of the 2008 Olympics:

Hmm America is 3-2 and is being beat by Japan, Korea, and Cuba. Seems to me that they should revoke the name "World Series".

  1. super bowl was already taken

  2. The USA hasn't put their best players in the Olympics because the MLB season is still in effect... Thats why they aren't doin that well

  3. Umm perhaps b/c that's the name of it since it started in 1903?

It's been called world series from the very beginning.

Does it make sense, you know what, WHO CARES, it's tradition now.

And forget about the idea that World series means that Americans think they are the best in the world, players from all over the globe come and compete with teams to make it to the world series.

Yes, there is a higher population of Americans, dominicans, cubans, etc than say people from Africa, but if they were good at baseball, they can play too.

    Enjoy your stay.

  5. well, seeing as the best players from japan are playing here in the US i would say that it is a world series because it contains all the best players in the world. MLB players cannot participate in the olympics so don't bring that argument anywhere close to the world series

  6. well a lot of the baseball teams have players that were born all over the world. Could be one reason and one reason why the US team isnt 5-0 right now is probablly becuase they're all too busy earning their paychecks, they dont get payed to play for team USA

  7. Because there are players from TONS of different countries in the world.  It wouldn't be fair to them to call it the "American Series" or something like that.

Plus, our players in the Olympics are MINOUR LEAGUERS.  Our best players are still in the middle of their season.  If they were playing, we'd be kicking everybody's asses worse than we do in basketball.

Maybe you should think about it a little harder next time, dumbass...

  8. history

  9. because its not the USA its the MLB it does not mean usa alone it includes places like toronto etc.

  10. They gave it that name back in 1903 before the game was global. Perhaps a name change is warranted. Good point.

  11. if u think about it thou any US team that wins a title are called 'world champions' in any sport, and the players come from a variety of countries so it makes kinda sense.

  12. its tradition. americans aren't even the prime contributor to mlb anymore. it is the main baseball league all over the world. its seen all over the world. the world's best players are here, with more on the way...

  13. Wow, so many ways i can shoot you down.

Okay, the men playing in the Olympics arent even on MLB.  They are like minor league kids and college kids.  The MLB season is going on rite now, so no one can just leave to play for the Olympics.

Secondly, although the term World Series have many different meanings, it can all be agreed that the MLB shows so many international players from so many wide ranges of ethnicities, so i think the MLB(and NOT USA, as you have stated) has a good right to use their FINALS called WOrld Series.

If you know enough about the MLB, you also know that it is not solely USA.  It is not USA professional baseball.  Its a Major League Baseball which also have a team in Canada.

Also, baseball origniated in USA first and they coined the term World Series so early that no other countries even adopted baseball as a sport.  I think that gives MLB(once again NOT USA) the rite to use the World Series.

  14. Hello football (don't call it soccer!) troll!

Any good riots or other civil disturbances goin' on?

  15. it has been the "world series" forever. it's part of the history of the game. whether it makes sense or not i dont think they should change it
