Question:

Why does the air in our office building smell like chlorine?

For the last couple weeks the air in one section of our office building smells like chlorine (a swimming pool.) Sometimes you can barely smell it and sometimes it is so strong that it takes your breath away.

There are a few of us in this wing and each of us have been experiencing burning eyes, sore throats, headaches and dizziness. We've called the maintenance people but they can't figure it out (and they aren't thrilled about having to look for the source.) I have a feeling it is coming from the air conditioning.

Anyone have any suggestions on what this could be or where it could be coming from?

  1. It not should be from the airconditioner. There are some times the plentim is sterilized so that the legenere's desease can not grow. I suspect that is from cleaning like counter tops with a chlorine cleaner. Get them to change to a venegar base cleaner for a change...

  2. The cause should be that there is a use of bleach somewhere in the area.

possibly in the cleaning of the floors.
