When I watch tennis (professional), how come when a person is serving and the line judge yells "FAULT" sometimes, not usually, you will hear the audience laugh?

  1. Its usually cause he's calling foot fault....and probably it was called several times on the server.

  2. Im not sure.... maybe they think the lines judge looks funny.

  3. sometimes when they call "fault" - "foot" etc...

also when the ball is so obvious that its out.. they still shout!

  4. Sometimes a fault is SO OBVIOUS there's no need to scream it out, a simple hand gesture is enough, esp if the umpire also saw it and the players are well aware of it.  That's when I laugh. I mean, come'on, if it's obvious, why scream it out?!

  5. It's because the line judges have to duck and swerve to get out of the way of these really fast balls especially on the serve and sometimes they can't get out of the way and get hit and the audience have a sympathetic laugh. :^)

  6. Because the line judge makes bad calls sometimes, it is a hard job especially calling service lines, they don,t get enough credit .

  7. okei put it the best. I don't know if they are allowed to or not but they never attempt to catch the ball that's heading their way. They just hold their pose (i.e. calling the ball wide or in) and move their body to avoid being hit. At times, they do get hit and that's when the audience might have a chuckle.
