Why does the bell hop do this?

Everytime he brings my bags to my room for me, he tries to give me a low five! Is he just proud of his work and trying to play it cool, or is he being weird?

I have been wondering the same thing. So what I usually do, since I don't know what else to do, is mimic them. I stand there with my hand in the same position as them and look them in the eye. But then they usually shake their heads and walk away. I don't know why. Maybe I am not doing it right.

No, he is expecting a tip for his service. Usually a dollar a bag will satisfy him. If you are not tipping him, he probably thinks that you are being cheap.
