Why does the bottom of my laptop get so hot?

because the fan is under the laptop or because the laptop is in top of something that is making it really hot put it on a cool place

That's because the fan for the processor is underneath the laptop.. It blows out the "hot air" and thats what u feel.

it  needs  to be elevated  off of  the surface your setting  it on.. There  is a cooling fan under  there  and  it needs  to breathe.  I used a straight stick  (1" thick) under  the back  of mine  till I got  a cooling pad.. which by the way  is a great investment.$30 at Wal Mart  and  has 2 fans  USB  driven. Fits  in my laptop case nicely too.

But  till then find something to  get  it up off the table  or what ever  so  it can get air  circulation  to the fan.  This will keep  it  a lot cooler.

It's not a bad thing, it's good. It means that your CPU heat sink is working properly and is moving hot air away from your CPU. If you're worries about it, get a laptop cooling stand with fans in the bottom.
