The belt is fine and the dirt and hair has been cleaned from the ends of the brush roll. It still does not turn freely.

  1. I would have to say a roller too. as a matter a fact my father just tried to fix a old metal made kirby vac. cost too much to repair. buy new vacume

  2. maybe you need a new roller.

  3. Assuming that the belt has the proper tension and isn't stretched, and that you've actually removed the brush and gotten all of the little strings and debris off of the ends, it could be bad bearings in the roller itself, or the motor could be bad. Uncover as much as you can where the belt connects to the motor.....turn the vacuum "on" and see if the belt connection at the motor actually spins, if it doesn't, the motor is the problem....if it does, then (if the belt is not broken) I'd suspect a stretched belt - get a new one. Finally, see if there are bearings in the ends of the brush/roller, one (or both) could be bad. If that's the case, a new brush/roller should solve the problem.

  4. The belt may be slipping.lf you can't see the motor end, could the belt be off at that end? lf its not off. Rub a little bar soap on the belt, without water. Also could be the motor.Try the soap first, Good Luck
