  1. its probably because its still owned by the government. Im Panamanian and we used to have the same problem and then they privatized it and we dont have blackouts anymore, but electricity costs about 1,000 times more than what it used to cost.

Central America in general, I know for sure Panama, does not produce enough electricity to supply the demand. In my country several new companies are starting operations which means that by the time they are ready in 2009 the costs of electricity will go down. Nicaragua is probably having problems with shortage combined with the government.

  2. MR. CHÁVEZ WILL HELP THEM!!

  3. They are forced to ration electricity here because of an energy crisis we are currently undergoing. It was worse last year, but has gotten better since Daniel Ortega became president last November. Taiwan and Venezuela have helped us much in providing electricity and sending large electricity generators, the problem is reducing with time.

  4. the same reason its only on for 8 hours in Romania

    to save $

  5. they get their lights shut off for more than 12 hours daily there have been many news articles about that. They can't afford to pay for electricity so they get it shut off for 12 hours and at times even longer.
