Question:

Why does the general public want and need more government control and intervention?

Do we really need the government to clean the environment, take over the tobacco industry, take over the health care industry, the car industry, the oil industry, the housing market, the lending industry and so on? Do you really think that our government is capable of really fixing or running anything right? If so, if you really believe this, why?

  1. Want to s***w something up, make it a government program.  Those that want these big government programs are just lazy americans worried too much about the latest i-phone or Wii to pay their own way with health costs, retirement, etc.

  2. Most people do not want these types of control, only those who lean a little too far to the left.

As the above post pointed out, if you really want to mess up an industry or a cause let the government get involved.  When I hear people calling for the government to take over oil I cringe, were already paying $4 per gallon for gasoline, if the government gets involved heaven knows what the price will end up.

  3. Are you serious?

no one needs the government to control anything, but They think you need them to. Secondly. name a few things the government does better than independent Organizations. except keep getting us further in debt,(national deficit) making criminals of anyone who would be so bold as to say something against their objectives, and becoming corrupt, breaking the laws they have sworn to uphold.

not to mention handing us over to the UN'S one World Government. instead of One Nation Under God they are turning us into One World under Satan

  4. It sure looks that way with the following of the Democratic candidates who would make this nation one under a huge and controlling government.  I don't think those people understand the freedoms they would be giving away.

When you take a man's earnings, you take aways his liberties.  Raising taxes, raises prices and dereases our ability to remain independent.  I don't want to fall further under that kind of control.

  5. Historically, when there is abuse of freedom, the government steps in. There are numerous examples:

    - stock manipulation

    - polluted water

    - aviation safety

    - infective diseases

    - food contamination

    - education standards

    - safety on the high seas

    - segregation.

It should be obvious from this list that the government needs to step in to get things under control.

  6. It isn't the general public. It's Liberals who want more power to the government (which according to the Constitution IS we the people, not the elected), but Libs don't know that.

The want the elected government to run America like Hilter did, to think they will have to do nothing to get something...but Hilter didn't run Germany like that, did he? No, one gave their life, or their self importance up for a few bits of gold to buy a loaf of bread, a head of cabbage, and 1/2 pound of bacon, for EVERY meal! It was just cabbage soup, after the bacon ran out.

Liberals please go back to school, and listen this time! Night school is free, and so are Libraries!

  7. People seem to forget that WE are the government.  When we want or expect the government to do something we just have to pay for the project; we don’t have to do the work ourselves.  We lose sight of the fact that the government is the most inefficient “worker” on the planet.  If I want someone to paint my kitchen, I find a painter.  He comes in, gives me an estimate, spends the day painting, and I pay him his $600.00 and give him a beer.  Then he leaves. But if I call “Government Painting, Inc.” the “representative” won’t give me an estimate; he just tells me it’s $300.00 a day and that’s for two painters.  So I hire GPI.  The two guys show up the next morning about 10:30, both of them are hung over, they spend two days painting in three different colors, and the bill is $1,800.  I can’t deduct for the window they broke or for the four six-packs they drank while they were “working.”  I probably shouldn’t have hired GPI but I had to.  It’s a new law:  If the government bids on a job the government gets the job.  No exceptions.

When we get our tax rebates let’s not forget to write our senators and representatives to thank them for giving us back some of our own money.

  8. My worst nightmare is a knock at the door and the person standing there says, "Hi, I'm from the government and I am here to help you"!

  9. First, most Americans have never read the Constitution, much less understood its intentions. Many people do not even grasp the fact that a "President" cannot just waltz into office and "change" whatever they want. They really do not know what powers are granted to the different branches of government and how those specific powers are to be exercised.

Second, "personal responsibility" is a concept that is totally the opposite to many people's mindset. For far too many years, our government has taught the populace to believe in a "cradle to grave" philosophy. We are not taught about the privileges of living in America... we are taught that we have "rights." Further, these so-called rights are to come at the expense of my neighbor, not myself. I do not need to be a "responsible" American that has the right to "pursue" happiness. I now have a "right" to be happy! Sadly, once again, our educational institutions, especially those of higher education, are indoctrinating our young minds with a new and "progressive" vision for America.

Last, people are entirely too lazy.  We want someone to make all the decisions for us, even if those decisions are not what is best for us or our nation.  We want someone to be able to blame when things go wrong.  Someone to be able to sue.  Sadly, we live in a generation that have been raised in a "virtual reality" where we can "escape" our daily life.  Moreover, most young people believe that the government can and should be able to make are lives perfect.  They have been indoctrinated in many very socialistic values and beliefs.

Therefore, does it bother me personally that people want a large, obtrusive government?  Yes, and I try to convince as many people as possible that we need a smaller, more focused government.  However, I am usually met with apathy.  The majority of people, especially young people, really do not care enough about our nation to want to depend upon themselves or become responsible citizens.  It is much easier for them to be "sheep" and follow the rules... whether the rules are good or bad.
