Why does the government have to spy on americans?

There's been so many pieces of legislation passed that grant total immunity to telecoms, increase spying and wiretapping on americans and grant police more power to search whomever they want. all in the name of "fighting terror"

But where does this time together? Isn't the enemy over in Iraq and Syria and places like that? Why are the americans being treated as suspects?

Because they can't figure anything else out. The hypocrisy in this is that it really doesn't effect conservatives. This administration can attack someone's freedom of speech, but one it comes to the NRA and gun rights, that can't be touched. Maybe because the NRA gives the GOP money, or maybe guys like druggie limbaugh already like FISA because they don't disagree with the President, they have "nothing to hide". The government isnt spying on Americans per se but people who live in America as classified suspects under National Security. So these people living here could be any nationality

Three articles below, on what Congress just did in passing the bill allowing spying on Americans, on what appalling bad idea it was, and then a judge's opinion on why this is so wrong. They are so articulate, I will let them speak for themselves.

The title of the New York Times article is: "The Wiretapping Bill: President Bush, and Fear, Lead the Senate Off a Cliff."

Fascinating, and depressing, reading. In my opinion, George Bush is bereft of real ideas to fight terrorism. Just one example: he fired Richard Clarke, our counterterrorism expert, who had been trying to convince Bush of the seriousness of the threat, but Bush wasn't listening. GWB thought the Clinton administration had been too worried about Al-Quaeda.

And what a price we paid on 9/11 - and continue to pay every day.

Last but not least: a link to Richard Clarke's book Against All Enemies, which relates how GWB has been soft on terrorism -- ignored it completely -- and didn't do what his experts recommended to prevent an attack such as 9/11.

Becuase its all part of their plans to take away all our rights,one by one,and make us their sheep.And the Aermican people say,"its due to 9/11,no big deal",its not just becuase of 9/11,something big is going on here.We are being attacked and we are being treated like 21st centry slaves.America needs to wake up,and realize that if I really wants peace in the world,we need to get rid of the people that are stoping us from doing so.We NEED to become aware of the government and their true agenda.We need to stop day dreaming about,"what if I win 1 million bucks with the lottery",or"i wonder what Beyonce will wear tonight at the Grammys?".We need to remember that our founding fathers intended for us to be ruled by laws,NOT others.The enitre "war on terror" is uter bullcrap.Thats just to keep us scared and give us fear so we can never build up enough courage to stand up to the government and say,"enough is enough,we want our rights back".If we dont wake up from our ignorance that is clouding our minds,and we dont look at the real enemy that is the government,we will end up like the Greek Empire,which brought on it's own demise at the hands of their "leaders"!
