I cut tee decks at my golf course and I wanted to know why the grass is darker in one direction but lighter in the other direction?

  1. If the grass is lieing towards you, it appears darker than the stripes lieing away from you.  Look at the stripes from the other side and you'll see the light ones are dark when viewed from the opposite direction.

  2. Generally it shows the grain of the grass.  If it apears shiny, you are going with the grain.  If it appears dull, you are going against the grain.  Really good to know information when you are putting or chipping.

  3. I am glad I opened to read your comments.  I thought I was going to have to explain the life cycle of grass.  It is the way the grass bends as he said.    I was going to say you see it on baseball fields all the time and even designs, but you said "colour" so imagine your not a baseball fan.
