Why does the grass on some baseball fields look like stripes when seen on TV?

Very often when I watch baseball on TV, the grass looks like it was put down in pieces. There are all sorts of geometric patterns like angles, stripes, and diamonds. Somebody told me it looks that way because of how it was cut, but I'm not sure I believe him.

  1. It is just the way they cut it

  2. The grass has been cut in a spacial way.

  3. i depends on how it is cut and how the groundskeeper drags the pattern

  4. lawn mowers can be bought with rollers that will lay the grass however the roller is positioned.  i am not sure if that is how grounds crews in baseball do it but i do know that golf crews use it.

  5. The greenskeepers adjust the heighth of the lawnmower blades, which results in a pattern being made, so whoever told you that it was how the grass was cut is right.

  6. It's the way the groundscrews cut the grass.

The Mets used to have the NY skyline cut into their grass.
