Question:

Why does the internet on the main computer go down/freeze when the second computer accesses it (the internet)?

I have two computers. A main one which only I use and a second one downstairs for the rest of the family. This computer has a router and is the one that "receives" the internet. The internet up here works perfectly fine except when the computer downstairs connects to the router to connect to the internet. After a few minutes or so the internet just freezes/goes down and I can't access it from this "main" computer. If I left the computer stay connected to the network generally I can browse the internet for another few minutes until it goes down again. When it goes down I usually have to restart the router and wait for the service to come back up. I have to do it every 5 minutes or so or sometimes in even shorter intervals of times. Its really really annoying. Does anyone know why the computer downstairs is causing the internet to freeze/drop on this computer up here? Does anyone know how to solve this? If you know how to troubleshoot this problem add me on msn (maurodiogo@hotmail.co.uk) and we'll go over it or just send me a link to a page with information and a solution for this problem please.

Thanks in advance,

Mauro

PS: I am using a speedtouch585 v6 router and my ISP is talktalk which I have contacted before regarding this problem and they said they had nothing to do with it because the internet which is what they are offering/giving us is working fine. It has to do with the router itself.

  1. You got a Ten one set up. Get some one that knows what they are doing to set it up.

  2. i havnt read the whole thing (being honest) but from your title it sounds like conflicting ip addresses. I might be wrong, my msn is googoogoogoogoogoogoo@hotmail.com (yea, thats real lol)

EDIT: read it now lol, thats all i can think of, add me on msn if u wish, up 2 u

EDIT 2: Automatic IPS still can mess up, best thing to do is give both 1 manually, to make sure their isnt a conflict, click on "run" type in "cmd" then when the black box appears type in "ipconfig" press enter and scroll up a little, there will be an address saying 192.168.0.x, if x is the same for both computers then its a conflicting ip addy. Add me on msn if it is
