Question:

Why does the jury system call the same people every 4 years?

I know of other people that are never called and do not understand why. I really do think they should take the unemployed or best yet-people that really want to do this. I do believe in the judicial system and am not complaining that I probably will be called but will never understand why the same people all the time. Thank you for your opinion.

  1. They don't ..... its totally random ..... no matter what it seems like or what ppl tell you

  2. Probably when they renew their driver's license? Or, after one registers to vote?  Presidential races are every four years.

  3. For me it's every time I vote or renew my driver's license.  But... I have a friend who has never been called and she is 36.  I called about it once, and the clerk assured me it was just " random".  I don't know about that.  I got two summons, three weeks apart.

  4. Several factors are involved. First is the available population of adults in the jurisdictional area of the courts. Second is the method of selecting potential jurors which could involve only the use of voter registration lists. Both would "fine tune" those who could be potential jurors. If the court extended that to those who have pet licenses, pay property taxes on their homes or use government-owned utility rate payer lists, the pool would widen. But, then the courts would have to eliminate those who are not U.S. citizens.

As population increases, the interval of receiving a summons for jury duty increases as well. When I first arrived in Southern Nevada over a quarter century ago I routinely received a summons about every two years. As the population of my area has doubled every ten years since I moved here I haven't received a summons in the past six years.
