Question:

Why does the mach 460 sound system in my 99 mustang only play music out of the tweeters and not the subs?

Sub on the passenger comes on for half a second and goes out at times. When playing cd's they songs scramble and freeze and these are unscratched brand new cd's. I pulled the head units and all connections look ok. Please helpppp. Could it be the actually head unit or is it definitely an amp?

  1. Rabb is most likely correct.  Hopefully the problem stops at the radio.  On the cd skipping problem, there is almost no hope to repair the radio, better to get a replacement.

You could install an aftermarket radio instead of the factory radio.  (just buy the correct wire harness that turns on the factory amp)  If you have a used aftermarket radio, you could wire it up to the front harness to check it the system plays well.  Make sure you always use a harness, proper part for proper job.

  2. Well, it is possible the headunit could be malfunctioning if the sound is intermittant. Thats the easiest and cheapest replacement. Find a junkyard that has one and grab the headunit. Lets just hope it is, otherwise we are back to square one with what we talked about earlier.

    Cheers
