Why does the manual trunk release and button on key remote not open the trunk on 2001 Lexus ES300?

There are acually three things that you can try.

    
1. Press the button on key remote for a couple of seconds to check if it works or not.

    
2. If the first step does not work, Push the manual trunk release, hold it for a few seconds. It is a safety feature to be sure you don't accidentally hit the button and unlock your trunk

    
3. You have forgot to reconnect the switch connector when they remove the cover for some reason or the switch is bad, remove the cover that the switch is on and see if the connector is plugged into the switch, if it is then you may have a bad switch but i think you will find the connector is not connected, hope this helps.
