Question:

Why does the media have to fixate on this during an election year? Is this news?

I just read an article where the reporter had to point out that Clinton was in a powder blue pant suit. Is that news? Is that the only thing that is important to the people in this country? Does anyone care about the issues anymore or do we just care what designer everyone is wearing? What happened to journalistic integrity?

The part about the pant suit is toward the end.

  1. Of course it's not news. The media and I mean 99% of the media are Left Wing Liberal Democrats. They want a Liberal to be elected so they will report anything pertaining to the Liberal and ignore important news especially if a conservative is involved.

  2. Subtle sexism.  Hillary Clinton's attire is often in the story.  When was the last time you saw McCain's or Obama's clothing mentioned in a political story?  Usually, it will be if they are in something other than their normal dress (ie sans tie, sleeves rolled up, etc.).  What a woman wears is reported.  What a man wears is usually not.  The terrible thing about this is not the uselessness of the information but the fact that the reporters do it without a second thought about why.

  3. Yeah, it's news. I'm sure you're already aware of this, but there are plenty shallow-minded people out there that are far more interested in what someone's wearing rather than what they're doing.

Some women involved in politics [for example: Jackie Kennedy] are often considered "fashion icons".. face it, clothes are going to be analyzed whether it's on britney spears or hillary clinton.

  4. On one level, you are right -- this stuff pops up in the media quite often regarding women in all parts of public life, and it is pretty irrelevant. I'd like to think that attitude is dying out to a certain extent, but it can't leave fast enough.

However -- it's not like it was the lead to the story. And I fail to see any connection to a particular philosophy. Does mentioning a pant suit's color have anything to do with having a bias as a reporter? That's quite a stretch.

  5. No it has no relevance to the people, its not the people reporting it.  Most of us are disgusted with the way news/current events are reported these days.
