  1. The struggle between the kidnapping rebel groups and the government military is at a tipping point these days, with the government finally winning some of the battles. The rebels who control a good part of the country are losing some ground and public support. Since the U.S. government spends hundreds of millions of your tax dollars fighting the "drug war" in Colombia, wouldn't you want to know about some of the major developments in that nation?

  2. the news is not about you and what you think is newsworthy

its nice to have some good news and have the people back with their families

  3. The way they were rescued was pretty incredible. Basically, the bad guys [FARC]  gave them over to what they thought, was their FARC guys when in fact, they were not.  They lost their biggest bargaining chips.

  4. Why should they not mention people held captive for years.

  5. Yes, it's overrated but of course everyone must celebrate the return of three useless Yanks.

  6. You clearly know nothing about the country. Firstly, it's being talked about because one of the people freed was running for a government job when she was kidnapped and because there was not one person killed. The country has had this battle with the FARC for years and finally they are getting weaken. Secondly you clearly have a wrong idea of Colombia because if you actually go there you'd know it's not about people getting kidnapped and it's not violent and it has a lot of culture, riches, and beauty.
