You don't hear much in the US media about the following:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10767465/

Quote: Harry Belafonte accused U.S. news media of falsely painting Chavez as a “dictator,” when in fact, he said, there is democracy and citizens are “optimistic about their future.”

Washington's War on Nicaragua by Holly Sklar (Paperback - May 1988)

Paraphrase: The World Court in the Hague found the U.S. guilty of war crimes in Nicaragua in November of 1984.

Noam Chomsky

Paraphrase: After US foreign aid begins in a country, the GNP increases, however, the rate of starvation also increases. That's good for corporate investors and bad for many poor people within those countries.

  1. The media was not  created as a way to tell truth . It was created to skew and warp the truth in favor of whoever is controlling the media and their agenda. Most news reporters are just cue card readers. They read what the teleprompters want them to read and say. Its been proven time and time again through the history of the television age. Hitler used the media to help spread his propaganda and those same techniques are in continued use today. So for the US media to help aid in the distortion of the truth about about foreign policy in South America or with Chavez is within the scope of the lies and misinformation (in an information age) for which  it was created in the first place.  People would be outraged if they knew the truth. Then when someone is brave enough to stand up, investigate and report  the real truth, most likely they will be silenced in one way or another.  That too can be proven through-out history.  Didn't  the US inavade Iraq based off a lie supported by the media. I mean we still have people believing a 737 jet flew into the pentagon, thanks to our "trusty" media.

  2. The press is only trying to make a buck.  They aren't interested in the "truth", but only selling stuff.

For a pretty decent presentation of Chavez, read this:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Ch%C3%...

  3. Don't know, don't care

  4. know the whole of the story before speaking. Though it was a most pathetic time when a fruit company convinces the government to topple another legitimate DEMOCRACY for profits sake.

Chavez is not technically a dictator, he would be if he were "elected" for life but since he will be removed in time it is possible he's not a dictator. We shall see in the future elections.

Oh, and the media "lies" about US foreign policy because they know most people are either too lazy or ignorant to do the fact checking and contradict them.
