Does it affect national security? No! Everyday people have affairs and their names aren't splattered all over the press...so why the invasion of privacy? Shouldn't that stuff be between the cheater and their marital partner to deal with instead of the whole world?

  1. It sells newspapers. That is the only criterium.

  2. Simple. It sells. Thus providing the next part of your question. "Are people really so vacuous and stupid that some moronic celebrity marital problems provide entertainment and enjoyment for the slobbering fool's piteous existence?" Answer? Why, yes. Yes they do need it. The swine.

  3. When it comes to politics, it is an issue of trust.

It is not about being liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican.  Nor is it an "invasion of privacy".

Voters need to know that they can trust a candidate or elected official.  How they live their personal life, is a DIRECT reflection of how they conduct their business life, and whether they are honest and those around them can count on them to carry through and deliver on what they promise.
