Why does the moistened blue litmus paper turns to red if?

it is sticked to the mouth of a test tube containing a pinch of NH4Cl and was heated.. plsss help.. need it now..

  1. NH4Cl produces NH3 and HCl when heated. Both product are in gas form and neutral. HCl ionises in water in the litmus paper to produce hydroxonium ion H3O that shows the acidic properties. Hence, blue litmus containing water will turn into red.


  2. It is bcoz this reaction evolves out HCl gas

    And bcoz it does not have any effect on dry litmus paper.

    But when u bring wet Blue litmus paper as it is basic in nature it turns red .

    And these types of Bases are called Alkalis
