Ok so the past few nights I've noticed the moon being red for a few hours then around midnight it goes orange like what some people call a harvest moon. I asked my Aunt and she said (jokingly) That the vampires and werewolves were out to play..... Ofcourse that didn't help much and my parents don't know either so i decided to ask on Yahoo! Answers...... So please someone tell me... FYI: I believe in vampires and those stupid little pups(for those who don't know werewolves)

  1. Better than those stupid little fanged-bats (for those who don't know vampires).

Vampires don't exist to my knowledge.

Werewolves do, I don't know where you've been living, but a shell.

I don't wish to report you, I wish to answer your question.

    Here's your answer:

The moon turns red between the highest point in the sky due to infra-red light pollution in the far horizon, its impossible to escape because the light smears for hundreds of miles across the atmosphere's under-side, when the moon gets its highest, it is clear because there is no horizontal light pollution in the distance above. Between it, it turns orange.

Sometimes the moon is blue if its very cold (nitrogen-thickness colouring).

I hope this answers your question, I used to be a meteorologist and have to know all this information, please respect it, and I'll respect yours.

    Thanks.

  2. A combination of reasons.  The moon looks redder on the horizon, as you are looking at it through more atmosphere than if it was overhead.  As the light is refracted, it filters out some colors, bu the longer red light makes it through.

During an eclipse, the moon will turn red as it's reflecting the light from all the sunsets and sunrises all over the world.

  3. it could of been a harvest moon but also if u live anywhere close to where all these fires are happening the smoke makes the moon turn red

  4. i think it is because there are pollutants in the sky,

  5. you read Twilight didn't you?

I'm not sure if you know this, but the book is FICTION. some soccer mom wrote it.

    sheesh!

  6. The moon itself never goes a red color. If you flew to the moon on the night that you saw it being red, you'd see it as being gray. It's because of what your atmosphere is made up of - meaning if their is an increase in pollution or dust in the sky. I saw the moon tonight where I live (in South Florida by the beach) and it was yellowish gold. Blue light is scattered, letting light from the other side of the spectrum (yellow and red) to enter the atmosphere. This is why you saw the moon as being red.
