  1. Lack of Hitting.

    Inconsistent Pitching.

    Jack

  2. Maybe because the teams that play in the NL West suck.  Seems like the only logical explanation to me.

  3. Padres were playing way over their heads last year.  The pen and hitting have come back down to where they should be.  The snakes are playing at expectations.  The Rockies...well who knows, they could win 21 of their last 22 again.

  4. Diamondbacks - Started off on fire then ran into some pitching problems. Micah Owings lost his starting job, Webb went on a losing streak, and Johnson was struggling. They have done better recently but still show signs of inconsistency.

Dodgers - The starting lineup is different just about every other night. The aging Kent and Garciaparra shoulf be playing part time. They still haven't found any chemistry 105 games into the season.

Rockies - Their pitching staff is ranked 28th out of 30 teams.

Giants - Plagued with mediocre and under achieving players.

Padres - 28th in runs scored. Only the Mariners and Nationals are worse.

  5. The 2008 National League West is a practical manifestation of the efforts to increase "parity" and "competitive balance".

These are, of course, euphemisms for "mediocrity", the desire of Kommissar-for-Life Seligula to have every team finish at 81-81 or within two games thereof. Boil this down a bit more and we easily conclude that, sometimes, a division is going to sit at, possibly finish, below .500 overall.

This is an unintended consequence but likewise an inevitable one. The NLW might not have a sub-.500 champion, but neither is it going to produce an 86-game winner. Regression to the mean.

  6. There is no offense there. Think about it Dodgers are a young team and can't score runs. D-Backs have no offense either. Look for Dbacks to make a move like the dodgers did. Rockies are the only team capable of scoring a ton of runs. Giants and Padres have to start rebuiling their offense. Padres have an OK team with Peavy, and Young. Hoffman.

  7. look at the AL west too....

    other than the Angels...

  8. Because no one is winning

  9. because of lack of talent!! none at all!

  10. Several reasons:

    1.  Rockies and Padres have had injuries to their key areas for success (Rocks defensively and Pads pitching)

    2.  Lack of MLB ready talent in comparison to the rest of the league.

    3.  Poor management has led to bad deals for teams (ie A. Jones + Dodgers = bad!)

  11. The same reason any individual team sucks, no timely hitting, overall bad defense, and not enough depth in the bullpen and/or starting rotation

  12. I dont know its crazy
