  1. cost of iPhone, plus taxes, import duties etc......

  2. **I would have said it was because the iphone has been around in America longer than in Australia and therefore the price has gone down a bit - but judging from the other answers I'm not too sure my theory is right.

Give the iPhone a couple of months and they'll have gone down a bit.**

  3. Because This is getting to be known as the

Country of GREED, no matter what the excuse

or deal Businesses in Oz cant seem to get around

the fact that they should give the consumer a fair

deal !  Everyone in all businesses is not happy till

they make 500% on their product !

When the poor consumer is getting slugged like

this all the time, and also paying 500% taxes

it's no wonder our country cant move forward

but for the likes of a Greedy Minority !

  4. Greed.........

    Cashing in on hype......

They have done the marketing and created the want and desire.........

Now the people will pay what they tell them to pay...........

You cannot tell me that by buying bulk and being able to sell more units and smaller shipping costs the Americans can slash $500 off the price.......

Our dollar is strong and our market is still nothing to be taken for granted........ We own more than one mobile per person in this country........

It comes back to the marketing and creating desire to a point that the price for people is irrelative..... it is all that stands in the way of them and their desire.

They are willing to pay what they need to

  5. Because America can't come to terms with the fact their dollar is down....

Buy it online from the US if you want it cheaper ;)

  6. It costs X amount to ship etc.

PS the dollar to dollar thing is almost bang on the same.

  7. there are 2 main reasons, plus 1 subsidiary reason

    1. size of the consumer market - the u.s. has a population of over 300 million while australia has a population of about 25 million people. this means that the u.s. has bulk purchasing power that reduces the costs of imported goods.

subsidiary - transport costs are higher per unit to send goods to australia because the smaller population means less units are shipped

    2. wages - many workers in the u.s. recieve low wages whereas in australia, despite the efforts of the former howard government, the average australian worker still recieves a reasonably fair wage.

  8. The American Dollar is stronger than the Australian dollar. The cheapest way to buy it is to go to America. Canada is also cheaper but more expensive than the US. If you have a friend in USA, you could ask him to buy one and than you pay him back although that would be a bit bad because you would pay so much money.

  9. iam guessing its because the iphone in australia JUST GOT RELEASED 2DAY!! obviously its more expensive.

america has had it for over 1 yr.

if u look @ the price 1 yr from now in australia it would probly be about the same cost as it is in the states. the 1st few months the iphone was released in the states is about the same price as now as it just got released here.

btw iphones over rated. N95 AND SOON N96's the best fone in the world. u cant even send MMS on iphone. over rattted.
