Question:

Why does the outside of my knee always pop out?

Sometimes when I sit awkwardly or if I land awkwardly with my left leg, the outside of my left leg "pops" out. It feels like something is like sticking out of my leg then it almost always instantaneously pops back in.

It hurts a good amount, everytime it happens I feel like I broke my leg. While it's popped out it seems like my knee is bending to the side instead of forward and back. I have never been sore after it happened, but it happened today when I rode a wave into the beach and it's sore now(3 hours after).

It has happened at least 6 or 7 times before and everytime it happens it scares the "****:" out of me because I think its permanent. It usually stays popped and in pain for like 5 seconds then pops back in.

Whats wrong?

  1. What you are describing sounds like a dislocation of the joint (an example only).  Dislocation that happens frequently can be a sign of some other kind of injury to the area going on.

These kind of injuries can occur sometimes just from how we move with normal activities.

I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they say.
