  1. when power lines fall down or get hit


  2. usualy a transformer goes out or a power spike that means that there is to much power going through the power lines and it pops the circut at the substation.             <Please don't quote me on this.>

  3. During thunderstorms, lightning can cause an overload of a transformer or of the Power 'Grid' resulting in a Power Failure as the Power Plant shuts down temporarily..

    Heavy storms can also bring down power distribution lines.

  4. Lots of diffrent reasons.  Anything from your own breaker thrown in your fuse box to a transformer burning out to any number of reasons for a fault in the power grid in your area.

    I have seen transformers blow because of a squirrel getting on one and accidently getting grounded and electrocuted.
