Why does the whistle in rugby have a lower pitch in rugby than any other sport?

  2. Different whistle. The soccer refs use a high pitched whistle compared to rugby's lower pitched one as soccer refs tend to be further away from the 'game'.

    So my dad says - he used to be a soccer ref.
