  1. It allows the use of four catapults to launch aircraft. It also permits launching and recovery at the same time,   The initial reason for the angle deck was to allow the aircraft to land and clear the landing area by taxing forward onto the straight deck. It allows landing aircraft that miss a landing and not have to worry about hitting the aircraft that have already landed and taxied forward.


  2. So planes can be launched from the bow, and recovered at the stern at the same time. (the "runway" is called the flight deck)
