Why does the scoring in tennis go 15, 30, 40 and not 15, 30, 45?

Surely it would be more logical?

  1. Originally it was 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, which makes a bit more sense. 60 is a nice round number, the same as the number of minutes in an hour. It goes back several hundred years, so it’s kind of been lost.

    Later, "forty-five" was abbreviated to "forty", which is faster to say.
