Why does the sky in South Dakota look so close you could touch it?

Elevation doesn't matter, whether mountain or in a hollar-never seen the sky look like this anywhere else.

  1. I am not really sure why that is.  My guess might be the coloration of the soil contrast to the sky.  It may present an illusion.  Some places in Pennsylvania are like that.  It could also be low laying clouds.
