It usually doesn't.  Red sky at night is a sailor's delight.  Red sky come morning is a sailor's warning.   A red sky at night is usually forecasts a clearing trend.  This is because the setting sun in the West is reflecting off clouds overhead which are East of the Sunset.  It usually means that the air to the West it clearer which usually means a high pressure area is approaching.  High pressure means clear skies.



    A red sky at sunrise is the opposite.  The sun is reflecting off cloud cover overhead or West of the rising sun.  That usually means a low pressure area approaching.  Low pressure means cloudy skies and the chance of rain.   Remember, most weather approaches come from the West.
