Why does the sun rise in the east and set in the west?

  1. Actually it does not rise or set, we just call it that. The sun is stationary, and the earth spins on its own axis every 24 hours.  Because the earth spins counterclockwise,  east is the direction that first spins into view of the sun. As the earth keeps spinning, it gets to the point where, from any given viewpoint, the sun is no longer visible. This the people at that viewpoint call sunset.

    Earth rotates  in one direction.So we see the stationary Sun(with respect to Solar system) rise in the east.

    In Venus, the sun Rises in the west and sets in the east!
