Why does the sun rise nearly an hour earlier at Auckland than Queenstown?but sets at the same time ?

could it be they are in two different time zones just a guess on my part

Sometimes, the local sunrise and sunset times are based not on when the sun crosses Earth's surface natural horizon, but when it crosses any natural obstructions such as a tall mountain range to the east or west.  If this is the case, one of these locations may have tall mountains to the east or west.  So for one of these locations, the sunrise time may be based when the sun peaks up above a tall nearby mountain range or the sunset times is based on when the sun sets behind the tall nearby mountain range.  That is my best guess.
