  1. Either you are not moving fast enough, and the board sinks, or you are just standing too far back on the board. But I can't tell that on line. You need somebody to watch you in the water and help you.

It sounds like you are trying to learn on your own. That's not really a good idea. I did, but that was 42 years ago. Now, there are too many dangerous people in the water. Dangerous to themselves and dangerous to other surfers. You need someone to help you learn. Either lessons from a surf instructor or surf school, or some serious advice from your buddies who surf.

The answers you get here on line are opkay for some things, but technique, a skill development and being at home in the ocean are things you learn in the water from surf pals or intsructors, not people on line.

I have been surfing for a long time, take my advice and get some lessons. I hope you have as much fun surfing as I have had!

  2. You don't have enough speed and the board can't float with your weight standing up unless it is moving.

  3. if its a used board maybe you bout a sinker

and some times get water logged.

  4. if youre riding a shortboard you are probably standing a little too far back on the tail or you are putting too much weight back there. you shouldnt have that problem for a longboard because those are pretty boyant. maybe you are just leaning back too far
