  1. You are correct to certain extend only. Here is a history I read. There was an earthquake in California where in the 10 to 14 story buildings are only destroyed leaving all other height floors in tact. The reason was the earthquake frequency was 3 Hz. The building heights of 10 to 14 have conceded the same natural frequency of 3 Hz. Because of this the resonance frequency caused heavy damage. Normally the earthquake frequency will be in the range of 0.5 to 15 Hz. That will vary depending upon several factors & depending upon the geographical condition of that place. The low frequency earthquakes will damage tall buildings and high frequency earthquakes will damage low height building and bridges. We can show number of incidents for this.    


  2. I doubt height has anything to do with it.  It's the strength and for-thought of the construction methods and material that matter.
