Why does the temperature of the room increases when the fridge is kept open for a long time?

  1. The fridge extracts heat from inside itself, and ejects it outside.  But, the first law of thermodynamics is that 'you can't win'.. no process is perfect, and it takes energy to do things.. that extra energy also gets dumped out the back as heat.  So.. the heat from inside goes outside, PLUS all the energy from the electricity used to run the fridge.  If you run it continuously, letting the cold into the room, the room will get hotter because your heat is going around in circles, and you're using lots of electricity to make MORE heat.
