Question:

Why does the volume on my TV seem louder at night?

An odd phenomenon/quirk I just realized is that my TV seems much "louder" at night than it does during the day.

What causes this phenomenon? Is it purely psychological? Is it the lack of ambient noise outside? Or does my hearing actually get more accute? In the morning and day I have the volume between 20-50% depending on channel. During the night 10% seems "loud".

Any ideas? :)

  1. To sell advertising.

  2. It is because most of the people at night is sleeping. So it is quiet.

  3. i usually end up turning my tv louder at the end of the day, probably from being in loud environments during the day (live in a major city)  then i eventually realize it is super loud and turn it down   i also think tv stations broadcast louder in the evening, i know the commercials definitely are louder than most shows

  4. Mine is louder at night too.

I think that the some of the sun's radiation interferes with radio waves.

Or is it the stations crank up the power at night because the FCC is off duty then.

  5. Due to less human activity, noise outside is very less.So small volume is suficient to hear.

  6. Because your ears have heard more at night than in the morning, and your eardrums are sore, so they are more sensitive.
