Question:

Why does the water in the shower just trickle?

I have a home that's 25 years old. More and more, the pressure for the shower is diminishing. I have 'city' water, so I believe the pressure is fine. Will replacing the shower head fix the problem? Whatever the fix is, can I do it myself?

  1. Have you tried cleaning the shower head in CLR or something like that?  It might be corroded over with calcium deposits.

  2. I think the shower head builds up calcium deposits.

    CLR works great for that.

  3. remove your shower head and soak it in vinegar or CLR for 3 days.  before re-installing, be sure to check for debris stuck where it attaches to the shower neck and/or your flow restrictor.

  4. Lime and calcium build up..change your shower head.

you can control this problem in the future with a product like

    Lime-Away.

  5. True you may have calcium blocking the shower head cleaning it or replacing it I hope will work but A house 25yrs.old more than likely has galv.pipe that calcium is blocking the water flow if so replace pipe w/copper pipe.
