This would make it so much easier for their child to find the birth parents latter on in life. With so much secrets in the lifes of adoptions I just wonder how many brother and sisters or family member have married each other and not known about them.

  1. That is why some states still require blood tests before people get married, to make sure they are not related.

If you are ever questioning this get a blood test!

I think they might be testing for STD's also though...

  2. It's not only adoptees that need to be concerned about that. In today's society there are women who have children by several different dads, and men who have children with several different women. Plus there are those who have no idea who the father of their babies are. The risk of becoming involved with a relative is probably a lot greater in today's society then it used to be.

DNA testing before marriage is probably a good idea.

  3. I agree with Momof5--nobody is entitled to anyone else's SoSec #, and the original birth certificate should not be amended.

Would it be just as reasonable to give the birth mother the a'parents' SoSec #s in case she wants to find her kid later or, in the case of an open adoption, if the a'parents close it?  If not, why not?

Why can't we all just have our own birth certificates?!

  4. Its late and i'm really trying to understand your question.

Do adopted parents get birth parents ss#?

No i didn't get this info and i don't think ss#'s should be given out with all the id scams going on now.

    DNA -

Dna is dna.  Once you have a sample you can test it for anything. Now we are mapping out individual genes.  What if you are a young woman w/o health insurance?  The dna profile would also reveal if you were a carrier of the breast cancer gene.  Good luck getting health insurance now.  Thats just one scenario.  sry i'm a science geek.

Thats why imho, its just better having the OBC.

  5. In England recently twins got married not know they were related as they were adopted out  to different families.

DNA might not be a bad idea.
