Why does this answer deserve a thumbs down?

Question

In a recent question, the asker asked if he should drive 45 minutes back to his hometown to attend his hometown search. This is what I answered:

I would forget about it, but that's just me. Look for a closer Orthodox church. Many cities have more than one. You might even want to try an Eastern Catholic church, they are quite like the Orthodox. Good luck.

And I got thumbs down for it. WHY? I stated my opinion, then offered some good advice. What is wrong with that? What is wrong with some people?

some people are just haters.  Its life, some people just like to be contrary.  Ive got some moron that is sending in every one of my comments and questions as abuse.  Some people are just dumb that way.

Sounds like you got a stalker...he/she sees your avatar and "bang!" an explosion of anger breaks their head wide open and they MUST lash out....my advice is answer as many questions as you possibly can and let them thumbs you down enough times to let the steam escape from their addled mind...

You could be saving an entire town from a serial killer's rage...these stalkers often strike me as the type of people who will one day snap and kill a sh*t load of people...

I don't know, you can't really understand the motives of people you've never met.

More than likely a Christian of a non-Orthodox persuasion didn't like you recommending an Orthodox Church. A lot of folks on here thumbs-down based on subject matter alone. Example: A person asks who founded Mormonism, someone answers "Joseph Smith," and someone else thumbs it down because they don't like Mormons.

people get offended by the smallest things.  Just ignore them because more than likely it just has something to do with their personal experience.  For example, they could be someone who does the opposite of what you said

I guess a lot of people have itchy "thumbs down" syndrome - don't let it get you down.  I answered a question a week ago and got 8 thumbs down!

I edited and asked - "What?!  Only 8 thumbs down!  I must be loosing my touch!"   Might as well laugh at it.  It is out of our control.
