Why does this happen? It couldn't be a defense mechanism because I'm not doing it purposely.?

When I was younger I used to laugh when people would cry, I didn't laugh because I was nervous because I couldn't control my laughing, every time someone would cry I had to but my lip from laughing. This occurred from when I was in kindergarten to 3rd grade. But now I can't help laughing when my Mom yells at me. I cry after she yells at me but when she comes back and yells at me I start laughing. She's not ugly, and her voice isn't weird sounding.. So why do I laugh uncontrollably? Perhaps it is a defense mechanism, But it just is not controllable so I don't really know..

  1. i laugh 2 n then i get the **** slaped outta me i dont cry tho but ya i cant help it either maybe were r jus pure evil lol jk

  2. maybe it is defense???? i dont know. i think maybe you laugh when she yells is because instead of thinking about getting yelled at your mind finds another outlet instead of concentrating on the yelling. she yells, you laugh. your mind doesnt want  and cant deal with or think about the yelling just yet so, your brain says laugh.  i dont really know.

  3. It's not a "defense mechanism", it's anxiety....frequently see it with teens in anxiety situations (e.g. as you describe, funerals, hospital situations).  (psychologist)  ( you will "grow" out of it)
