Why does this happen?

Question

When you give an honest opinion on someone's writing, you get hate mail. Why is this? They DID ask you to give critisism, right?

I've only had that happen to me once, but it wasn't because of an honest opinion. The question was/sounded a bit racist and I stated that in a sarcastic question then I got an email the next morning--or at least that's when I checked my email--having him yell at me and implying that I was calling him a racist. I was like, er, yeah. Since you're IMPLYING I called you a racist--which I sort of did and sort of didn't--then you understand it was only natural of me to think you were IMPLYING you were a racist. Anyway, the matter was resolved rather quickly.

But no. I don't get hate mail which I'm wondering--just like Aly--where they come from. I've never gotten hate mail for an honest opinion, normally because I guess either people expect it from me or I tell them the truth without hurting their feelings, which is quite possible. But honestly, some people are way too sensitive and if I got an email from someone like that, they'd get their butt reported quickly.

If you can't handle someone else's opinion, you really should find a rock to go live under.

I know exactly what you're talking about! I get tons of hate mail, and the weird thing is that I like it. I like seeing how hard they try to defend themeselves and their writing. I mean, they did ask for my honest opinion, so I gave it...

Where are all the hate-mailers? I never get any!

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you completely. Honesty is, after all, the best policy. But I love laughing at hate-mailers. Where on earth do I find them?

I agree completely. To be mean about criticism is immature and wrong. Someone took the time to read it and give you feedback. Respect them for their feedback and reading the book in the first place! Chances are, it was painful to read, and even harder to say anything that could possibly help.
