Recently my computer has been randomly shutting down on me. When this happens it makes a crinkling noise and it sometimes restarts itself. What can I do to make sure this won't happen again?

  1. Your harddisk might be dying I suggest you start backing up your files immediately.

  2. The crinkling noise is usually made by a defective hard disk and nothing can fix it. Back up your files as fast as you can while you still can , remove and junk the present disk , buy and install a new one and reinstall windows.

  3. It it is a clicking noise, it is the sign on the HDD going bad.  Don't know about a  crinkling noise

  4. Have you tried checking all your internal connections?  If you don't know the way around the inside of your PC, find someone who does and get them to reseat all your connectors, cards, fans, etc.  Have you also checked your power-lead is in properly (and isn't damaged), it could be something as simple as that!  I would recommend backing up your important data in case it is  a hard drive problem, or if your hard drive gets corrupted by this problem.
