I have a softboard and transport it tied to the roof rack of my Explorer. As soon as the speed is 25 mph or higher, this horrible really loud buzzing noise appears. I have tried tying down the board nose, using a towel underneath the board, but nothing works. The surfboard itself is not moving but the noise is too much. I am using 2 regular surfboard ties (the good kind they give you at rental stores when you rent the board).

  1. More than likely the strap is vibrating. I have experienced the same on my Explorer. Now I use a ti-down around the roof rack bar and back over the top of the board. There are two straps on top of the board pulling it tight against the roof rack

  2. Its tapping against your car when you go faster the tapping gets stronger!

  3. Like the Second Guy Said, Put 1 or 2 twistins in the strap then tighten it as much as u can, this usually stops it.

  4. it depends on the strap try giving the strap a twist or two

  5. the birds are surfing
