Why does verizon require blackberry data plan?

i dont understand why every other company doesn't make you buy the data plan with a blackberry but verizon does? does anyone know if you can get verizon to NOT make you buy it or some way around it without switching providers?

att makes you do it for certain phones too, including the blackberry 8820. its bullshit... they guy at att told the phone wouldn't work without one. i looked at him like wtf? but i wasnt about to argue with some kid over a phone... the companies are tryin to s***w you. just get the plan and cancel it after a month.
