  1. Just as Plumb Addict correctly stated it is the law that all food stuffs have a use by date stamped on it.  In the case of many canned and package products, this date is false and misleading. Bottled water has a very long  shelf life (years) as long as has not been stored somewhere that has extreme changes of temperature and the bottles have suffered no damage.

As long as the packaging is not broken in the case of dried food stuffs like flour and that tins (cans) are not dented or damaged the real shelf life again is much much greater.

The unforseen sad thing about this dating system is it causes people to throw out perfectly good food which is definately very bad since we are trying to be less wasteful of resources and more eco-friendly.  We should all re-learn to trust our eyes and noses when trying to establish whether something is still edible or not.

  2. I can only guess at this one and say that it becomes stale or starts to take on the flavor of the plastic bottle. Other than that I have no idea and have often wondered like you have. Good luck to you on this one.

  3. When water sits to long (usually after opening) in an enclosed bottle it does actually "spoil".

It starts to breed jerms whether you drink from the bottle or not...

  4. For legal requirements.

Also, if it isn't sterile, there's a chance bugs will propagate in it.

  5. every item u consume has 2 hav an expiration date by law even if its good for eternity. did u kno toothpaste is like that 2???
