  1. Because most people don't care what effect they have on other living things. It is very beneficial to the Japanese to sell the meat from the whales they kill to "study." They believe that they can't study the whales without killing them.

  2. Some places in the world there's still a market for it, like in Japan. There are also native peoples who do it for tradition, though I'm not sure if they still use all the parts like they used to.

  3. Because no one cares that the USA banded it. we are the only environmentally crazy super power.

  4. japanese predators

  5. Because the japanese say that it's for scientific reasons.

its not really, but i really dont know what they do with them

  6. Most countries have either no whale hunting or a quota on whale hunting depending on the species. Not all species of whale are at risk, and there's no logical reason to cease hunting of low risk species than it would be to cease slaughter of cows, pigs and chickens.

A lot of people, however, love whales for their beauty, and can't stand the idea of them suffering harm.

A country like the United States has no appreciable demand for whale products, so it's easier and more likely for those countries to establish moratoriums on whale hinting. Other in which there is demand for whale products, or communities of traditional whale hunting, cannot as easily justify ceasing all whale hunting, particularly when it comes to whale species which are not at risk.

Japan is very often used in anti-whaling propaganda, but the country operates a sustainable use program under the oversight of the International Whaling Commission.
